E

Today we started the letter "E."  The Boy was very excited to get back into school.  We had a little break when my mother arrived.  To start the day, we did a review of all the letters.  I usually ask for him to point out a letter on his Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree, but he took them all off and I cannot find them. :(  So, we reviewed with the work he has already done (I keep it all in a folder and book).  Once we finished our review, I introduced the letter E and e to him.  He traced the letters, tried to write them himself and then colored.  The stickers he added to his letter page today were Eggs.   I was very impressed with his writing.  When we finished his E page, he traced letters A-E in his book and did a great job on all of them.  His D's look fantastic!!!  I am glad he is so eager to learn.  I hope this continues as he gets older and actually starts school.

Mother and Basement

I have been very happy the last few days...my mother has been here!!  I LOVE having my mother here.  She is such a help during the day with the boys and we have so much fun together.  The Boy just loves having her around as well.  He thinks she is here just for him.  He keeps her busy playing and going out to kick the ball, weather permitting.  She was so excited to get here and get to know The Baby better.  When The Boy was little, our house sold earlier than expected so we ended up living with my parents for the summer.  They saw The Boy everyday for his first 8 months and then at least once a month once we moved.  Now we only get to see them every few months, so she is missing the growth of The Baby.

She has only been here almost  week, but we have been busy!  If you saw earlier...our basement flooded, the day mother was arriving.  That was not resolved, somewhat resolved, until Friday afternoon.  Friday and Saturday night we had parties at the house and Sunday was church.  We are ALL very exhausted, but what a fun weekend we had.

I am so glad the basement is getting back together.  It was such a mess.  Stanley Steamer came Wednesday to suck up as much water as they could and ended up taking the padding out and tossing it.  They left MANY fans and a few dehumidifiers.  One wall sucked up about 22 inches of water and the others had about 11.  When they came back on Thursday, the walls had about 5 inches left, so they ended up poking holes in the walls to help dry them out.  Saturday, The Hubby went to Lowe's to get new padding and went to work in the basement on Sunday.  I think he is somewhat excited to have a project to do again, even though it is not what he had in mind.  The carpet is all pulled back and he sprayed the floor and baseboards for mold.  The bedroom now has new padding laid, not in tack, so Mother has something soft to walk on.  He is going to be busy the next few weeks putting it all back together.  What a mess that turned out to be.  Note to all...when it rains or snow starts melting...make sure sump pump is plugged in!!!!

Grammy and Her Boys

What A Way To Start The Day

The Hubby gets up to go to work and before he leaves he goes downstairs to open the vents...my mother is coming today to visit so he wanted the guest room to be warm.  What he found was....water.  Water everywhere!!!  The sump pump was unplugged and with all the snow melting and rain we had, we now have lots of water.  Stanley Steamer is here and they said the padding, which we got the nice one, is ruined, some insulation will need to go, and one wall may need to be replaced.  The carpet is salvageable, so that is good.  It is pretty bad down there.  What a mess and what a way to start the day.  I am surprisingly calm about it at the moment.  I think because my mother is coming in a few hours so nothing can take away that excitement.  Oh my...

Beef and Broccoli Stir-fry

Tonight I made a delicious stir-fry.  I have never had much luck when it comes to making stir-fries and this one was easy.  You can't mess it up.  It had so much flavor and and meat came out perfect.  It is easy to overcook the meat, but I took it out just a little under what I like and it ended up perfect!!  The Hubby was digging in before I set his plate on the table.  Right from the start, the kitchen smelt wonderful.  This is a must try!

Ingredients:

3 T cornstarch
1/2 c water, plus
2 T water
1/2 t garlic powder (I didn't have any so I chopped up 1 garlic)
1 lb boneless round steak cut into 3 inch strips
2 T vegetable oil
4 c broccoli florets (I used frozen)
1 small onion, diced
1/3 c soy sauce
2 T brown sugar
1 t ground ginger
hot cooked rice

Directions:

In a bowl, comvne2 T cornstarch, 2 T water and garlic powder until smooth.  Toss in the sliced steak to coat.
In a large skillet or wok over med high heat, stir-fry beef in 1 T oil until beef is at desired doneness.  Remove from heat.
Stir-fry broccoli and onion in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes.  Return beef to skillet.
Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and remaining cornstarch and water until smooth.  Add to pan and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes.

Serve with rice.

Nursing Cover

One of my friends at church is having her 4th boy!!!  We are having her sprinkle tomorrow night and she had asked if I would be able to make her a nursing cover.  Again, this is something I have never made before.  One of my friends had made one for me (that is why she liked it...she had seen mine in Sunday School).  So, I purchased a yard of fabric, boning, and a hook to connect the two strands that go around the neck.  I sewed a square and then looked at mine to see where the boning and strings go.  It was a simple project.  However, the one I made is a little bit bigger than mine, but I think she will like it just the same.  I think I am done with the project I have lined up for the month.  What am I to do now...maybe help with my friends son's first birthday!!!

D...again

We had such a full week last week that I felt like The Boy did not get a proper understanding of the letter "D," so we will be doing it again this week.  I think I will add the number 1 to his lessons this week.  He knows his numbers, now it is time to recognize them!!  Happy Monday!!
This is what The Boy did today.   I had him trace the letter D and d.  After he did that, he tried writting them on his own and did a pretty good job.  You can see them on top of the page, the first one was with my help.  He then circled all the D's he found in this poem I got off of Mrs. Jones Room.  He then drew a picture of a dinosaur on the bottom...can you tell! :)  He was very proud of his dinosaur.  The Boy did a great job on this.  Tomorrow, he will draw a picture of his Daddy to continue the letter D.

Diaper Cake

I finished yet another craft!!!  This time I made a Diaper Cake for another friend.  I don't know what I am going to do with my "spare" time after all these crafts.  I just have one left to finish.

This, too, was very simple.  What I did was roll up a bunch of diapers and put rubber bands around them.  Then I started to collect the rolled diapers together and put another rubber band around them.   I continued to add diapers until desired size of circle.  I made another circle with diaper rolls, but a bit smaller.  I then stuck a rod through the middle and attached a baby toy and wooden star...using, of course, my GLUE GUN!!!  I also added ribbon around the rubber band holding the diapers together and glues more wooden objects (flowers, bugs, hearts, stars) to the ribbon.  I hope she likes it!!!

A friend did this for me as well and put bath items in the center of the bottom tier.  What a nice surprise that was!

Fun Day

So, I am cooking my way through The Pioneer Woman's cookbook and who should be in Ohio this weekend...Ree Drummond. aka The Pioneer Woman!!!!  Some of my girlfriends and I went to Columbus to meet her today.  What a fun day it was.  We got there early so we could get our tickets and not wait FOREVER, then headed to Target (because The Baby wet out his diaper), lunch, and then we met PW.  I was so excited.  We had a great time.  She is so beautiful and so nice.  Oh how I wish we were friends!

Fire Camp

Mobile

For another friend, I did another craft.  I am feeling like a crafting queen right now.  I was in need of crafts and my friends got me to work.  I LOVE it!!!  I made this mobile for a friend who is having a little girl.  (One of my friends made one for me and I loved it so I wanted to pass the craft along)  All I did was hot glue (again, anything with my hot glue gun is sure to be great!) some wooden flowers together with ribbon going through them.  Then my hubby drilled holes through the cross parts of the wood so I could hang my "mobile" from.  I then wrapped ribbon all around the two pieces of wooden rods to tie them together.  Love it!

Burgers and Brats

What better way to spend a wonderful day, weather and the day in general, than to end it with a cookout!  I invited two of my friends and their boys over for a play date and as the day went on, we called the husbands and said we are cooking out.  It was such a great way to spend an odd, warm February day.  The boys got to play outside while the men grilled and the ladies stayed in with the babies and chatted while sipping wine.  I am SO ready for Spring!!!  Too bad it's supposed to get cold again.  At least we have a taste of what is near to come! :)

Doodle Dypes Diaper

I received my diaper from Doodle Dypes the other day and I really like it.  The fabric is very soft and it fits The Baby very well, with plenty of room to grow.  I chose an AIO, All In One, one-size.  It came with two soakers that just snap in place, something simple for The Hubby to figure out.  However, he has yet to try the cloth diapering on The Baby.  I thin he is a little nervous about it.  I am very pleased with my "win" and hope to have more success! :)

A Day Outside

Today was the first of a few warm days!!  We were up to 61 today and it's supposed to be just as nice the next few days.  To take advantage of the beautiful day, I took the boys outside to burn off some energy...at leaset The Boy burned off energy.  The Baby has only been out like this a few times.  He LOVED it today.  He had so much fun watching his big brother play with the remains of his snowman.  You could tell The Baby wanted to hop right out of his walker and join his brother.  Before I know it, I will have two boys running around the backyard.  It was so nice to get out for a bit and run.  The Boy needs to run!!

Valetine Party

Today, I took the boys to a friends house for a Valentine party.  It was a lot of fun.  There were about 11 or 12 boys and 1 girl.  My hubby found that rather odd, but they all had fun!!  They had cupcakes, traded Valentine's and PLAYED!!!  These are what my boys handed out with a little Happy Valentine Card.
I took two candy canes and placed them together to make a heart.  I placed a lollipop stick in the middle and melted white chocolate for the filler.  While the chocolate was still warm, I put sprinkles on top. :)

Tutu

A friend asked me if I could make a Tutu for their Goddaughter.  I have never made one before, but felt like I could figure it out.  It seems pretty easy.  I had her pick out some ribbon (we bought about 3 yards) and tulle (3 different color about 1 yard each).  I cut the tulle into strips and tide them onto the ribbon until it was long enough.  So simple!!!  I may have to make some more of these. It is absolutely adorable too.  The ribbon my friend chose has flowers on it.  So, every time I came to a flower, I left it out.  It made such a differance with the tutu.  Gave it that finishing touch.  I hope to see her Goddaughter wearing it.

"Watch Me Grow"

A craft I did for a friend I am very proud of.  I made a little mirror for their little girl.  One of my friends made one very similar for me, so I am passing it on.  I love how it turned out and anytime I get to use my hot glue gun, I know it's gonna be fun!!!  All I did was purchase some letters and a wooden flower frame with a mirror.  I painted the wood and added some embellishments along with the phrase, "Watch Me Grow."  I hope they like it!!

Quilt

I have always wanted to make a quilt, so this weekend, I did!!!  It was much easier than I thought it would be.  I had 20 of the same size rectangles, or squares, and sewed them together row at a time.  When I sewed the rows together, I made sure my seams all matched up.  Surprisingly, they did!!!  I then found a yellow fabric to use as the backing and sewed that to the front.  It didn't take that much time and it came out pretty well for my first quilt.  You should try it!!!

D

Today, I introduced the letter D to The Boy.  After a review of our previous letters, ABC, on our Tree, The Boy sat down and colored his D and d.  The stickers he had to add this week we of people dancing.  Later on in the week, we will make a Dog, practice writing d's, match D and d together with dump trucks, and one other activity I have yet to come up with.  So far, he has really enjoyed himself.  Here is what he did today...

Valentine Dinner

For dinner tonight I made Pioneer Woman's Spicy Pulled Pork.  Tonight I used a different pork cut and it was not as tasty.  So, fyi, don't use the rib!!  I used shoulder meat last time and it was delicious!!!  For dessert, I made a speacial treat, Pioneer Woman's Red Velvet Cake.  But, since it was Valentine's Day, I made it pink.
I took a picture of the cake before, but it didn't take for some reason.  I used heart pans and red sprinkles on top.  So pretty! :)

Valentine's Day

Today was a great day.  Not only was it Valentine's Day, but The Baby also turned 5 months old today.  Time is sure going by fast.  I thought it went fast with one child...I was wrong.  Today we didn't do to much Valentine activity.  I wanted to do a craft with The Boy but ran out of time.  We went to Target and found some great deals, came home and the boys opened their Valentine's from us, cards and M & M's, then did our letter for the day, and finally got dinner ready.  Not too productive of a day, but it was fun all in all.  After last week, we needed this fun and relaxing day!  Tomorrow is Mom's Day Out and I'm getting a pedicure with some girlfriends.  So looking forward to it!!

What A Week

When Daddy leaves, all falls apart.  The Hubby was gone all week for work and it seems like everything went wrong.  We did ok the first few days.  We had church on Sunday, playdate on Monday, MOPS Tuesday...then it went downhill from there.  The Boy came into my room Wednesday at around 5 am just crying.  He kept trying to go to sleep, but he was so uncomfortable he kept squirming.  After 2 hours of this, he started to puke...so, I called the doctor.  We went in and they just gave him zofran and drops for his ear, he kept complaining about his tummy and ear hurting.  We came home and watched a movie then he finally fell asleep for a much needed nap.  By the time dinner time came around, which seemed like weeks, he felt better.  Thursday, he was still battling the runny nose and slight cough, but The baby came down with something.  Today, The Boy still have his runny nose, but the Baby is trying to get over a cold.  It breaks my heart because they can't tell me what is wrong so I don't know how to fix it.  On top of all this, our furnace decides to stop working.  I would get up in the night to feed the baby and find it to be very cold.  Going down to look at the thermostat, it reads 60 when we have it set at 70.  The poor Baby, his room is totally exposed so it is the coldest in the house.  One night, I had both boys in bed with me so we could stay warm.  Of course, now that the Hubby is home, he got home today, all is better.  Except for The Baby...he still has his cold.  I am not sure how we survived the week.  I felt like I was being pulled from head to toe with these boys, but thanks to some great friends, we made it.  I am glad this week is over!

I know it's late...

So I know it's Saturday, but here is my Flashback Friday photo...

This was from New Year 2002 I believe.  Seems like yesterday.

Valenta Snack

Growing up, we all had our favorite snack.  One that my family always went to, we call the Valenta Snack.  It is the simplest snack to make and is delicious.  What can be better than chocolate and peanut butter!

You take a graham cracker and spread peanut butter over it (I prefer crunchy).  You then cover it with mini chocolate chips.

Delicious!!!!
